Distant (Woollen) Friends

Friday, glorious Friday!  Is it just me, or have working weeks stretched from five days to about seventeen lately?  Is it a side-effect of all the hot weather, perhaps?  At this point, it feels as though Monday was some time last month.

But all is good, for the weekend has arrived and my thoughts have turned to distant woollen friends, as implied by my title.  Some are more distant than others.  In fact, one is almost around the corner from my house.  The other one is in Sweden, hopefully being put to good use in the snowy Swedish Winter.  I love the fact that something I made is out in the world, being useful to someone.  That’s what this crafting business is all about, right?

Here are the two distant-ish friends on my mind at the moment:

Distant Friends

The front tea-cosy is the one in Sweden, living with my friend Tess.  The blue one behind was made for a now-former colleague as a going-away present last year.  The leftover wool from that one is currently being used for a new project, which will end up in yet another person’s home.  On a side note, I’d like to draw attention to the incompatibility of Summer and crocheting.  It’s good to know the thing you are currently making is nice and warm… it would just be nicer to know about it in the middle of Winter.

As for the rest of my Friday: it involves sushi and planning for a weekend roadtrip.  It doesn’t get much better than that!

I’m struggling a bit with the same thing, I’d love to knit myself up a hot water bottle cover for the winter, but it is so stinking hot right now that I’m not sure I can makemyself knit in this weather!

As far as hobbies go, this weather is more conducive to taking up ice-carving than knitting! If I weren’t on a deadline for my current project, I would be storing it away while the weather is so hot.
